Thanks for the offer Marcelo. I will be contacting you directly.
I had to google plone to find out that it is a CMS. It is an interesting
question as to whether we should use an existing CMS or roll our own out
of OFBiz. But there has been so much progress on the OFBiz CMS that I
can't imagine dropping it now. One of the reasons that it is taking so
long is that a lot of effort is being put into making it use and be
compatible with the other parts of OFBiz. I have spent the past couple
of months or more helping David finish up the screen widget UI system
and it wasn't till today that I realized just how powerful the CMS is
going to be when we integrate the screen widget templating system with it.
Another reason for not integrating an off-the-shelf CMS system is that
even though we are in the age of SOA and it should not matter, for an
SME to have to bring in two different vendors or support two different
technologies adds a lot to its costs. One of the beauties of OFBiz is
that it is such a strong platform for doing any development and if you
can stay in that environment for as much as possible your production and
maintenance costs will be lowered.
Right now, the strength of OFBiz is its ecommerce functionality, but in
the future I can see the CMS being the second half of a strong 1-2 punch.
Thanks for bring it up. Makes for interesting discussion (but you didn't
really think we were going to use Python, did you :0).
