[OFBiz] Users - Expertise required

A year ago I went through the (then) very painful process of trying to get
my own brochure-ware site up and running on ofbiz as a learning exercise and
because I wanted some simple content management. Very painful from a
hosting point of view, the ofbiz bit was easy :)
My requirements were very similar to yours (probably even more junior in
terms of money to spend).
At the time there were no ofbiz specialists, so I evaluated a whole bunch of
general hosting providers and gradually settled on those specialising in
java and servlet containers like tomcat.
They all seemed very professional on the way in, but without exception they
sucked sour grapes from then on - right up to the point of trying to get
refunds for the "free trial periods".
I gave up after setting the whole thing up three times and converted my site
to server-side includes on apache and went for my friendly corner store
provider (cornerhost).
In the process I came to the conclusion that you're better off with a
whole-box hosting service. In the UK, something like uk2.net who will give
you total access (admin shell, dns, firewall etc) so you can do what you
want - for around £30-£40/mth entry level depending on term of contract.
Having said this, I didn't do it because it requires a level of OS expertise
that I don't have yet. Doh!
If I was tempted to do this again, I'd start with an Ofbiz specialist (no
plug intended), though I've never spent any time looking through features
for price, so perhaps you've already been there.
