The exception you have got is java.lang.NumberFormatException.Perhaps it is
due to some variable type problem in the config file.
 
You should use the correct variable type in the xml files. For example,below
is a file section:
 
    <thread-pool ttl="18000000"
                 wait-millis="750"
                 jobs="3"
                 min-threads="5"
                 max-threads="20"
                 poll-enabled="true"
                 poll-db-millis="20000"/>
 
We must add quotes to those numbers such as "min-threads",but not the only
numbers as form like: min-threads=5.

I just unzipped ofbiz_5205 and started it on windows with Java 1.4.2_08 
successfully.  I'm not sure what problem you might be having. 

Can you post:
1.  serviceengine.xml
2.  the entire log from trying to start ofbiz
