[OFBiz] Users - Question about multiple suppliers

I think there might be an automatic product
association missing when you define multiple suppliers
for a product.  Take the following scenario:

Company sells widgets.  His productId is GW-1001.  He
has three suppliers for this product, two
manufacturers and one reseller.  
Manufacturer A's productId is MA-1332
Manufacturer B's productId is MB-89320
Reseller's productId is RS-12903

Shouldn't these each create PRODUCT_SUBSTITUTE
associations between each of the three supplier's
product Ids and the Company's productId as well as
create a new productId if it doesn't exist?  (The only
immediate downside would be duplicate productIds for
non equivelent products, which could be resolved by a
prefix or suffix on the external productId)  What
other precautions should be made?
